“Counsel is mine, and sound wisdom: I am understanding; I have strength.”
~Proverbs 8:14 KJV
What is Psych and Saint?
Psych and Saint is the intersection of psychology and biblical principles. Growing up, I always heard my grandmother, the late Pastor Shirley J. Nicholson, tell me that sound psychology aligns with the word of God. I never understood the depth of her words until I became a psychology major, and I started leaning on the word of God for my mental health. My mom would always quote Romans 7:25 “ …So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God…” to help me see the importance of fortifying my mind in Christ. Now, I know theoretically and experientially that the word of God is therapy, and good counsel of a friend is sweet to the soul. -Proverbs 27:9
The Intersection of Biblical Principles and Psychology: The Introduction of Psych and Saint
Welcome to the introduction of Psych and Saint. Psych and Saint is the innovative podcast, focused on the intersection of Biblical principles and Psychology. Psychological concepts and mental health struggles can be taboo concepts in the world of faith. There is a need for a greater faith connection in providing competent mental health care. For instance, multiple studies have found that a majority of individuals seeking clinical treatment prefer a practitioner who integrates their faith, and perceive these practitioners as more competent (Pearce, 2015; Baetz, et al., 2004; Rose et al., 2001; AACP, 2000; McCullough & Worthington, 1995). The purpose of this project is to create the path and introduction for Christianity and Psychology to embrace each through a digital medium. The themes for this project will focus on depression, vulnerability, mindfulness, and self compassion. These themes will be discussed through four podcast episodes. The episodes will display vulnerable testaments of my life, along with retellings of the lives of various individuals in the Bible. These personal and Biblical sharings will be used to illustrate the four psychological themes.
About The Logo
The branches from the tree’s logo make a Greek letter that represents the psychology symbol. The leaves on the tree are dark and barren with a bruised and battered trunk. The dove in the picture is carrying a fresh olive branch – a symbol of Christianity – in its mouth to replenish the tree. This logo symbolizes the importance of faith incorporated into the mental health journey. Throughout this platform, the image of a butterfly will often be depicted to represent life’s changes and the resilience we possess to persevere. “
“Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.”-James 1:3-4 KJV
